Monkstown FC Strategic Plan – Progress Update
As Monkstown FC continues to develop its long-term vision towards our 150th anniversary in 2033, we are pleased to share an update on some important recent progress.
Our strategic plan is built around four key pillars — Rugby, Finance & Fundraising, Membership, and Community — alongside developing a long-term facilities blueprint in collaboration with PCC. While progress takes time, we continue to build momentum and translate our plans into practical action.
Rugby
We have recently completed a very successful recruitment campaign, welcoming a significant number of new players to the club. This is an encouraging development and strengthens the foundations of our rugby programme as we continue to build sustainable pathways throughout the club.
A key priority for the next phase is developing a U20 side. We have now agreed our approach and plan for building this important part of the club's player pathway, creating a stronger bridge between youth and senior rugby.
Our focus in Q4 of this year (2026) will be on putting that plan into action, including appointing an U20 coach and recruiting players to establish and build the squad.
Facilities
A major milestone has also been achieved with the redevelopment and realignment of the pitch. This represents an important investment in the club's playing facilities and will support rugby at all levels for years to come.
The next phase of our facilities development will shortly commence with the preparation and submission of an application for funding through the
Sports Capital Grant programme. One of our key priorities will be to
replace and enhance our floodlighting with a more sustainable and energy-efficient solution.
This investment will improve our facilities, support increased participation and playing time, and help ensure that the club is operating in a more
environmentally sustainable way for the future.
Membership
A review of our membership is currently underway to ensure that our membership structure and engagement reflect the needs of the club as we look to the future. An important part of this work is reconnecting with past members and former players, strengthening the wider Monkstown FC community and encouraging those with a connection to the club to become involved once again.
Our history and community are among our greatest strengths, and we look forward to renewing those connections as we continue our journey towards 2033.
Looking Ahead
These developments reflect the progress being made across the strategic plan. Our focus remains on execution: strengthening rugby participation and pathways, developing our facilities, building financial sustainability, engaging our membership, and deepening our connection with the wider community.
The journey towards 2033 is well underway. With the continued commitment of our members, volunteers, supporters, sponsors, and wider club community, we are confident that Monkstown FC can build a strong and sustainable future while remaining true to the traditions and values that have brought us this far.
