Captain’s Message

As captain of Monkstown FC it gives me great pleasure to welcome all players and supporters to Sydney Parade for what will be another hugely enjoyable season.  Personally, it’s a huge honour for me to captain the club that my father Ken played for, and was club president in 2004/05 – it truly is a family affair!  I’ll also be well supported this season by vice-captain, Marcus Stewart.

Last season was a mixed bag for the club on the pitch.  However, we consistently displayed the passion, determination, and skills that are the hallmark of Monkstown rugby, culminating in some fantastic victories on the pitch.  I am also particularly proud of the four teams we field week in week out and that the spirit and enthusiasm, for which Monkstown FC is renowned, is still alive throughout all aspects of this great club.  The emergence of DBS Monkstown as a force and the continued development of our mini-rugby set up is most encouraging.

Off the pitch our famed club hospitability continued as we hosted the “Ole Festival” with teams from Argentina, Spain and Cork converging on Sydney Parade for a celebration of rugby.  The club was also active in the local community and through the Monkstown “Blue Day” initiative rose over €3000 for the Irish Cancer Society.

I would specifically like to thank our main sponsors City Trust for their invaluable support this season.

Once again this season we have a lot to be optimistic about – growing player numbers, a thriving social scene, an excellent coaching outfit, and a robust executive and organisational structure.  With this in mind I urge all members and supporters to fill the banks of Sydney Parade and cheer us on.  Your support means a lot to the squad and we’re determined to reward your loyalty this season, with great rugby and results.  Together, we can ensure this great club continues to become stronger, both on and off the pitch.
